Brutal Assault on Taekwondo Coach at CBSE National Tournament in Etawah Raises Serious Questions

Etawah, Uttar Pradesh — What should have been a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent turned into a horrifying ordeal at the CBSE National Taekwondo Tournament, held between 3rd and 7th September 2025 at Amneev Vision School, Etawah. A Taekwondo coach, Alok, was brutally assaulted inside the tournament premises, allegedly by referees, guards, and officials — an incident that has sparked outrage and raised alarming concerns about safety, fairness, and accountability in school-level sports.

Allegations of Cheating in Matches

According to eyewitness accounts, the tournament was marred by biased judgments and unfair decisions. Several deserving players were allegedly sidelined, while winners were declared in favor of others without merit. Coaches and parents present at the venue expressed their frustration, claiming that the spirit of sportsmanship was compromised, leaving many young athletes disheartened.

Night of Violence: Assault on Coach Alok

The nightmare escalated on the night of 6th September, when officials suddenly called Alok’s student for a match between 10 and 11 PM — despite having already announced the schedule for the following day.

When Alok, fulfilling his role as a guide, tried to counsel his student before the fight, officials allegedly began abusing him. Matters quickly turned violent. One official, identified as Rahul Rana, reportedly shouted: “Ye mujhe maar raha tha, sab milke isko maaro!” (He tried to hit me, everyone beat him together). Following this, referees and security guards allegedly ganged up and thrashed Alok with plastic rods, leaving him bleeding and severely injured.

Second Assault Inside the Principal’s Office

Shockingly, the violence did not stop there. Even after staff members intervened and pulled Alok out of the situation, the same group of officials stormed into the principal’s office where Alok had taken refuge. They allegedly beat him again and went as far as to threaten to kill him if he dared to raise his voice or report the matter.

Threats and Phone Snatching

Later, as senior staff members attempted to escort Alok back to his hotel, the intimidation continued. According to his brother, two cars followed them on the way. Alok’s mobile phone was forcibly taken from him during the chaos and, to date, has not been returned.

Police Negligence Adds to Trauma

The ordeal worsened when Alok and his family approached the Friends Colony Police Station in Etawah to lodge a complaint. Shockingly, the police allegedly refused to file an FIR despite repeated requests. Instead, they reportedly arranged a “settlement meeting” with the school’s Chairman, where Alok was pressured to withdraw his complaint.

Adding to the injustice, the family claims that even a medical MLC report was denied, further obstructing their pursuit of justice. Such alleged negligence on the part of law enforcement raises serious questions about police impartiality in cases involving influential institutions.

Family’s Appeal for Justice

Alok’s brother, Roshan, has reached out to media platforms with an urgent appeal, stressing that only media pressure and public attention can ensure justice.

“We request that this brutal incident be highlighted so that FIR and strict action are taken against the guilty officials. CBSE and the Sports Ministry must intervene to conduct an independent enquiry. Coaches and players should not have to fear for their lives while participating in school tournaments,” Roshan said.

Larger Questions for Sports Governance

This incident is not just about one coach — it raises larger concerns about the safety of players and coaches, the transparency of school sports events, and the accountability of both organizers and police authorities.

The allegations of cheating, mob assault, intimidation, and negligence by law enforcement paint a deeply disturbing picture of how sports, meant to build character and discipline, can be corrupted by power and misuse of authority.

The Road Ahead

As of now, no FIR has been registered, and the accused officials continue to go unpunished. The family hopes that highlighting the issue through media platforms will push authorities — both CBSE and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports — to take strict action and restore faith in the integrity of national-level school tournaments.

Until then, the scars of this violent episode serve as a grim reminder of the urgent need for reform in the way school-level sports are conducted and monitored in India.
